What EXACTLY does a Defense Attorney do?

Try to save your a**! Source(s): attorney
A defense attorney "defends" against the charges or lawsuit brought against an individual.

In the criminal context, this means that he or she represents the accused delegation. The defense attorney tries to get the charges thrown out and presents evidence tending to show that the defendant is any not guilty or not deserving of so harsh a punishment.

In the civil context, the defense attorney does a similar job - he or she tries to get hold of the case dismissed, presents evidence that the defendant should not have to take-home pay any money, etc. Source(s): Defense Attorney
In a criminal case the defense lawyer's most important role is to counsel the defendant give or take a few how to proceed. The defendant must make some important decision like whether to plead guilty or to go trial; what motions should be file; and what witnesses to call. If the case proceeds to trial the defense attorney has an ethical obligation to zealously counsel the facts and the law for his client. Ours is an adversary system and, contrary to the beliefs of some not cognizant people, the defense lawyers do not "side" next to the defendant and with what the defendant may have done. Rather, the defense attorney ensures that the law is applied sort of. The adversary system cannot work if only the prosecution is zealously advocate. Source(s): http://www.jensendefense.com
Defends you from bad facts and accusations. Why? Did you do something fruitless?
A defense attorney is the "bad guy" in the court room. he/she defend the "guilty" person. and unlike what most ppl think, they do not LIE. they simply represent the facts that the prosecutor leaves out. for instance, if a woman murders her husband, the prosecuter is the one who accuses her. the defense attorney stands up for the woman and says the things that we just ever hear on the news, like perchance she was abused by him for the past 25 years and give birth to 5 kids out of rape and he just keeps on drinking while she works 2 job to support the kids or something. the defense attorney, to me, is sometimes the good guy because they give the defendant a second fate.
