No you dont want a lawyer. A divorce only cost in the region of less than 300 dollars IF both the husband and the wife are not disputing anything. If you have kids you may inevitability to see a lawyer though.

I wouldn't recommend divorcing without a lawyer if you hold children, even if you agree on everything. And, if either of you have a allowance or own a home or other substantial property, it isn't a good idea to turn it completely alone.
Here's how my ex-husband and I handled it (I'm in NJ). I am a legal representative, but I don't practice family law, and I needed to make sure that our agreement was celebration to us both and that the way it was worded wouldn't grounds problems down the line.
We sat down and negotiate what we wanted, and wrote it all down. We have his lawyer (who was cheaper) draft an agreement that reflect what we wanted. Then we had my attorney simply review it, and suggest any necessary changes. We put the fees together (mine be very little because it was basically a review and his weren't much more) and split them. It was quite inexpensive, and we have the security of knowing that a couple of experts had made sure we weren't accidentally shooting ourselves contained by the foot because we didn't know what some of the ramifications are.
If you have no substantial assets and no kids you can probably shift it alone. But if there's even a chance of something important getting messed up, it's best to own lawyers review everything.
