Get a public defender. If they tested your blood alcohol or gave you a breathalyzer your screwed anyhow. If its your first offense they will place you on ARD( Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition). It is not place on your diary as a misdemeanor. The public defender is free and will do the same for you.
I paid $6k for mine and got out of the dui. I be 23 years old so I figured the return on the investment be there as I did not want the record. If you're elder, a dui is not the end of the world.
My biggest concern was that you can't acquire two dui's and I didn't want to always be scared to drive home from events when I have two or three beers.

Depends on how much you blew and what the circumstances are. This will depend on what kind of lawyer you requirement and what to spend. 1500-1800 is about right. But bear surrounded by mind spending the money is well worth it.
If convicted your insurance rates will go process up for years. Any sort of job that requires a background check (even construction nowdays) could send regrets to hire you. Point is an extra thousand spent now will save much more than that latter. And what happens say 8 years from in a minute and you had a glass of wine or two at dinner and find pulled again? At that point the cost and penalties will be HUGE.
The prosecuters have to maintain money and time spent. If you have a good advocate he will have an appeal all equipped to go. So it is cheaper for them to cut you a better deal and step after the next ten who have a cheap legal representative.
