In, "A Time to Kill," why does Hailey choose Jake Brigance to be his advocate instead of the NAACP lawyer?

I'm doing a report for school on the movie, and I've already returned the movie. This is an essential part of what I'm writing just about, and I don't remember why Carl Lee Hailey, the little girl's dad, played by Samuel L. Jackson, opts to shun the NAACP's offer to keep him in court, and chooses Matthew McConaughey's character, Jake Brigance to be his legal representative instead. Anyone know the movie super well?
Answers:
Jake had be there when most people have turned a blind eye to him.

He knew by talks next to his wife, that the NAACP was not doing what they were dictum. And so he stuck with the one honest many he know he could trust.
I don't remember it SUPER WELL but I do know he chose him because Brigance defended a house member of Hailey's or a friend of Hailey's and because he did that he knew of Hailey's daughter so whenever the word came in that she be hurt Brigance was the first one to jump on the overnight case..hope this helps
He trusts Jake. Jake was next to him in the beginning when not a soul else was. Also they have specified each other for awhile, Jake helped out Carl Lee's brother when he get in trouble a few years before.
Also, and probably most importantly, Carl Lee explains to Jake while they sit in his jail cell, that Carl wants Jake to be his lawyer because Jake, despite his liberal status, is just close to the trial jury of Carl's suppossed "peers." He is a white, Southern man, just like most of the jury, so Jake must know exactly what to voice in order to convince the jury of Carl Lee's innocence. Because of this Jake know he had to present the rape of the daughter in such an impartial, emotional way that the juror could see it and recognize without the placement of race on the events and outcome.
