My mother have a tenet suit against a city for personal injuries. can her son attach himself to the suit?

My mother is 80, and has Demia. I would like to attach myself to the ruling suit so that when my mother dies, her law suit will not. The injury basically destroyed her senior years, and immediately with Demia, she is really suffering and confused.
